Selaković: Humanity and solidarity are common values of Serbia and the Sovereign Order of Malta

During his stay in Rome, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Selaković, met with the Grand Chancellor and Minister of Foreign and Internal Affairs of the Sovereign Order of Malta, Albrecht Freiherr von Boeselager, and said that relations with that order are very important for Serbia.

Minister Selaković, the first Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia to pay an official visit to the Sovereign Order of Malta, said after the meeting that the importance of our relations may not have been properly recognized so far.

According to him, the Sovereign Order of Malta gives principled support to issues of vital importance to our state, such as our territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The head of Serbian diplomacy stated that this year we are marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Minister Selaković expressed satisfaction that the Agreement with the Sovereign Order of Malta, which was negotiated for ten years, was signed today, which, as he explained, means that half of our diplomatic relations passed in negotiating the agreement which was signed today.

"In the future, we will be able to express not only our gratitude to the Sovereign Order of Malta for the help provided to Serbia, but I can freely say that we will strive to jointly affirm those values ​​of our civilization that the world needs today more than ever, which are humanity and solidarity", said the head of Serbian diplomacy.

According to him, the meeting focused on issues that are important, not only for Serbia and Southeast Europe, but for the whole of Europe, such as the issue of migration, the fight against human trafficking, fight against modern slavery, and views were exchanged on the issue of crisis hotspots in the Mediterranean basin and in our region.

"In the future, we will try to intensify our cooperation, to talk more, to consult more, to exchange some important information regarding our work and to try to achieve better and more intensive communication in our joint activities", said Minister Selaković.
