Programme
In accordance with Article 49 of the Law on Foreign Affairs, the Diplomatic Academy organizes professional training and development of its staff, and the employees from other state administration bodies and public sector institutions, which have a developed international cooperation.
During one school year, lasting nine months, the Diplomatic Academy organizes the following two programs:
1. THE CORE PROGRAM OF THE DIPLOMATIC-CONSULAR TRAINING-intended for trainees of the diplomatic-consular profession, as well as for employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who are enabled to acquire a diplomatic title. The exams of this program consist of the diplomatic-consular exam, which is the state professional exam for civil servants with diplomatic rank (Article 101 of the Law on Civil Servants). The procedure of employment in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the diplomatic-consular profession is regulated by the Law on Foreign Affairs. The text of the public competition for employment in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is published in the media, the Official Gazette, on the website of the Ministry and on the website of the Human Resources Management Service of the Government of the Republic of Serbia.
2. THE CORE PROGRAM OF THE DIPLOMATIC TRAINING, which is a professional development program in the field of international cooperation, intended for the employees from other state administration bodies and public sector institutions, as well as employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who do not have a diplomatic rank, but are engaged in international cooperation affairs.
Applications from candidates interested in attending the Diplomatic Academy, who are not employed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but in another institution, are accepted exclusively on the basis of the institution's nomination and upon receipt of an invitation letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Every year, usually in September, depending on the available capacity of the Diplomatic Academy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs determines a list of institutions (National Assembly, Office of the President, Government with all ministries, etc.) to which invitation letters will be sent with notification of the procedure and the deadline by which proposals of candidates for professional training at the Diplomatic Academy need to be submitted.
More specific terms and conditions for the application of candidates from other state bodies and institutions, after the invitation letter from the Foreign Ministry, imply:
1. A recommendation from the institution where the candidate is employed
2. University degree (minimum requirement-a 4-year course of study at the university level)
3. Job position related to international cooperation affairs
4. Recommended 35 age limit
5. Good command of the English language.
Individual applications of candidates are not valid, but only official applications of institutions that have assessed as important the professional development of their employees in the field of international cooperation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs selects the candidates, taking into consideration whether the aforementioned criteria are fulfilled, particularly the recommendation issued by an institution, and the results the candidate has achieved throughout the entry procedure.
The trainees who are not employed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after graduating from the Diplomatic Academy, continue to work in the institutions where they are employed, i.e., the institutions that recommended them for professional development.
