Minister Dačić receives Grand Mufti of Egypt, Shawki Allam
The Grand Mufti is the government’s most important authority on religious matters and one of the most influential religious figures in Egypt, Arab and Islamic world.
The visit was organised at the invitation of Muftis of two Islamic Communities in Serbia.
Minister Dačić said that the Grand Mufti’s visit to Serbia was the first such visit in the history of the two counties and that Serbia attaches to it great significance and believes that it will contribute to further development of friendly relations and cooperation between Serbia and Egypt.
Foreign Minister expressed his conviction that during his visit to Serbia the Grand Mufti will have the opportunity to see that all religious communities are equal and that Christians and Muslims live here in peace, respecting each other and preserving peace and coexistence together.
Grand Mufti Allam expressed his condolences for the recent tragic events in Belgrade and Mladenovac, as well as compassion and solidarity of the Egyptian people with the families of the victims.
He pointed out that he opposes all extremism and was pleased to see diversity of religions respected both in Serbia and Egypt.
Interlocutors exchanged opinions on the status of bilateral relations and opportunities for their promotion.
They agreed to remain committed to strengthening of bilateral relations and promoting cooperation in all spheres.
