Tokyo: Meeting of Ambassador Kovač with Masako Mori, Special Advisor to the Japanese Prime Minister on Women's Empowerment

21. Nov 2022.
Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Tokyo Aleksandra Kovač attended this year's second meeting of ambassadress accredited in Japan with Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan on women’s empowerment and member of the Upper House of the Parliament Masako Mori.

The purpose of the meeting was to exchange opinions and national experiences, and it also served as a preparation for the Sixth World Assembly for Women (WAW) on 3 December in Tokyo.

Ambassador Kovač, noting that digitalisation is one of the priorities of both the Serbian and Japanese governments, briefed about introduction of the gender aspect of digitalisation as a thematic focus in Serbia's Third Gender Equality Index Report. She introduced the attendees to the key findings related to considering the issue of possible gender segregation in terms of digital skills, in ICT education and the labour market.

Emphasising the positive aspects of the digital form of work, the Ambassador pointed out that their gender perspective is complex and that attention should be paid to domains in which the gender inequality of the traditional labour market is rather mirrored than bridged.

In this regard, she expressed the expectation that a discussion within the upcoming Conference would contribute to a deeper understanding of this topic and possible solutions.

In addition to Ambassador Kovač, the ambassadors of Samoa, Mexico, Bulgaria, Belgium, Jamaica, Ghana, Mali and Nicaragua presented national results and challenges related to achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment.
