Political relations
Relations between Serbia and Tajikistan are good and friendly, without open issues.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, visited the Republic of Serbia on 29–30 January 2020 on the occasion of celebrating the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Tajikistan. In addition to the meeting with the then First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ivica Dačić, he also met with the President of the Republic of Serbia, Alekansar Vučić, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, and the then Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Maja Gojković. The visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan was the first bilateral visit at the ministerial level since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Economic relations
Economic cooperation is modest and based on trade in goods. In 2021, the total level of trade in goods was around 17.585 million US dollars (14.595 million euros), out of which our exports were 1.335 million US dollars (1.121 million euros), while imports were around 16.250 million US dollars (13.474 million euros). Our exports decreased by 38%, while imports increased by about 278%. In 2020, the total level of trade in goods between the two countries was about 6.45 million US dollars, with domestic export of goods in the amount of about 2.15 million US dollars, while imports amounted to about 4.30 million US dollars. In 2019, the total level of trade in goods between the two countries was about 1.2 million US dollars, with domestic export of goods in the amount of about 1.15 million US dollars, while imports amounted to about 75,000 US dollars.
Serbia exports to Tajikistan propulsion machines and engines, raw materials for the slaughterhouse industry, aluminum structures and parts, cooling and freezing devices, as well as seedlings of edible fruits and other plants, etc. Tajikistan exports to Serbia aluminum and aluminum alloys, non-ferrous base metals and textile products.
Bilateral agreements
The plan is to sign several interstate agreements with Tajikistan in the following period.
Serbia and Tajikistan have signed only two bilateral agreements so far:
Agreement on Trade and Economic Cooperation, and
Agreement on the Establishment of the Intergovernmental Committee for Trade, Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation.
