Political relations
Bilateral relations are characterised by a longstanding tradition of friendship, with Syria having been a partner of Yugoslavia for decades within the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Arab League (AL). However, due to the current situation in Syria and the change of government, political dialogue has stalled.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Syria, Radovan Stojanović, and members of the diplomatic staff were evacuated from Syria to Belgrade on 6 December 2024, shortly before the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
A delegation of the Republic of Serbia, headed by Minister without Portfolio Usame Zukorlić, visited Syria from 3 to 5 June 2025. On that occasion, the Serbian delegation met with President Ahmed al-Sharaa and Minister of Foreign Affairs Asaad al-Shaibani.
Economic relations
According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, the total trade exchange with the Syrian Arab Republic in 2025 amounted to €4.6 million, of which €0.7 million referred to exports from the Republic of Serbia and €3.9 million to imports.
