Political relations 

Traditionally friendly and good bilateral relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan have been further enhanced by the signing of the Declaration on Friendly Relations and Strategic Partnership (8 February 2013) and the Joint Action Plan on Strategic Partnership (21 May 2018).

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbian and the Co-chairman of the Intergovernmental Committee for Trade and Economic Cooperation with the Republic of Azerbaijan Nikola Selakovic paid an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan on 25-27 July 2021. The Sixth session of the Intergovernmental Committee for Trade and Economic Cooperation of the two countries was held as part of the visit, as well as a „b2b“ business forum. At the invitation of President I. Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Serbia A. Vučić paid an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan on 21 – 22 May 2018. The then First Deputy Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Serbia, I. Dačić, participated in the Ministerial Conference of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries, in Baku 25 – 26 October 2019 and on that occasion talked with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan I. Aliyev and the then Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan R. Mammadyarov.

Economic relations 

In 2021, trade amounted to a total of 56.895 million US dollars (48.105 million euros), of which Serbian exports amounted to 54.256 million US dollars (45.773 million euros), and imports 2.639 million US dollars (2.322 million euros). In 2020, trade amounted to a total of 23.4 million US dollars, of which our exports amounted to 21.1 million, and imports 2.3 million US dollars. In 2019, the volume of foreign trade amounted to 7.88 million US dollars, of which Serbian exports amounted to 7.52 million USD, and imports from the Republic of Azerbaijan 356.000 US dollars.

The most intensive cooperation with the Republic of Azerbaijan is in the field of road infrastructure, and the most important project is the construction of the Ljig—Preljina section on Corridor 11 (total length of 40.4km), where the main contractor was the Azerbaijani company AzVirt. Cooperation with the Azerbaijani company AzVirt continued on the new project of construction of the highway Ruma—Šabac (22km) and the fast road Šabac—Loznica (55km).

Bilateral agreements 

42 international bilateral agreements have been concluded between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Azerbaijan. 

 By importance, the following stand out:

  • Declaration on friendly relations and strategic partnership;
  • Agreement on Trade and Economic Cooperation;
  • Agreement on Encouragement and Mutual Protection of Investments;
  • Agreement on International Road Transport.
