USEFUL INFORMATION

HEALTH SITUATION — More information about the current health situation can be found on the World Health Organization website: https://www.who.int/.
Hospitals and other medical facilities are of limited capacity and a number of medical conditions require going to Europe, South Africa, Ghana or Gabon for treatment. Adequate health insurance and the possession of funds sufficient to cover the costs of going to another country and receiving medical treatment are recommended.

SECURITY SITUATION — The security situation in Sao Tome and Principe is good and the risk of incidents is generally low, although robberies may occur. Visitors are therefore advised to pay attention to their valuables and money (and leave them in the hotel, if possible) and to personal belongings, especially while at the beach.

TRANSPORT — The airports in Sao Tome and Principe are Sao Tome International Airport (the city of Sao Tome) and Principe Airport (the city of Santo Antonio).
To rent a car, visitors must have an international driving permit. Most roads are in poor condition, especially outside the capital city. Driving at night should be avoided, as animals can wander onto roads, as well as driving in periods of heavy rain.
In addition to local bus and coach transport, there is also a good taxi service with cars and motorcycles in its fleet.

OTHER INFORMATION — The international dialling code for Sao Tome and Principe is 00 239.
The national currency is the dobra. Credit cards are accepted in very few places. Visitors should check with hotels and restaurants in a timely manner whether they accept credit cards. Cash can be withdrawn with a Visa credit card at the main bank on Sao Tome. If urgently needed, money transfers can be made through services such as Western Union.
