Selaković: Serbia attaches special importance to the strategic partnership with Azerbaijan

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Nikola Selaković, met today in Baku with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov.

At the press conference, Selaković said that the conversation was very successful and that the mutual desire to intensify cooperation at the bilateral and multilateral level was confirmed. He pointed out that the excellent friendly relations between the two presidents, Vučić and Aliyev, also make a significant contribution to the strategic bilateral cooperation.

The Minister said that Serbia attaches special importance to the strategic partnership with Azerbaijan and expressed confidence that in the coming period, there will be an intensification of dialogue at the high and highest level. On this occasion, Selaković sent an invitation to Minister Bayramov to come to a return, official visit to Serbia.

Also, the head of Serbian diplomacy said that he talked with his Azerbaijani colleague about holding bilateral political consultations between the two ministries, especially in the field of consular affairs.

Minister Selaković especially emphasized that both countries are committed to respecting the principles of international law, as well as to providing mutual support for the preservation of territorial integrity and sovereignty. Selaković thanked for the confirmed principled and clear position of Azerbaijan when it comes to non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo, as well as for the understanding and support in international organizations.

Selaković said that economic cooperation was also discussed at the meeting, that it was stated that it is good and has a tendency to grow, but that he agreed with Minister Bayramov that economic relations and trade exchange can be much better. The Minister pointed out that certain Azerbaijani companies, such as Azvirt, are engaged in Serbia, which are working on numerous infrastructure projects in our country.

Also, Selaković said that he talked with his Azerbaijani colleague about visa liberalization and the establishment of direct flights between Belgrade and Baku.

At the press conference, Selaković also spoke about the joint celebration of the 60th anniversary of the First Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade and the gathering that will be organized on 11 and 12 October in Belgrade.

He especially emphasized satisfaction that a bilateral visit of President Aliyev will be realized before the opening of the meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement, and said that it will be a historic visit of great importance for our country, as well as for future cooperation.

The Minister assessed that the excellent talks with President Aliyev and Minister Bayram were an incentive to continue the visit and meetings with the ministers of economy and defense industry, but also for the session of the Intergovernmental Committee for Economy and the business forum, which are to be held tomorrow.
