Minister Đurić Confers with Atlantic Council Staff Delegation

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Marko Đurić emphasised today, in a meeting with staff members of U.S. Representatives and Senators, that Serbia seeks to build the best possible relations with key countries around the world, while the principal objectives of its foreign policy remain strengthening stability and cooperation in the region and pursuing membership in the European Union. He explained that Serbia’s geographical position, as well as its economic and security environment, make the Balkans and Europe the foundation of the country’s most important relationships.

The Serbian Foreign Minister recalled that the first round of the Strategic Dialogue between Serbia and the United States was held in Washington just over a month ago, representing the culmination of bilateral relations and a substantive platform for advancing cooperation across a broad range of areas — from politics and security to energy, trade and investment, as well as culture, science and people-to-people ties. He also noted that approximately one million Serbs live in the United States and represent an important bridge for further strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

Briefing the U.S. delegation, which is visiting the region, on the key aspects of Serbia’s domestic and foreign policy, Minister Đurić presented the country’s most significant achievements in the fields of the economy and infrastructure, as well as in maintaining financial and energy stability despite the numerous geopolitical challenges and conflicts around the world, whose effects are also indirectly felt in the region. He noted that Serbia has made considerable progress in the development of innovative technologies in recent years, with the United States being Serbia’s most important partner in the field of services and the use of information and communication technologies.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the U.S. guests had an opportunity to put questions to Minister Đurić regarding Serbia’s positions on the most important regional and geopolitical issues.
