Đurić: Serbia Actively Contributes to Addressing Regional and European Issues
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Central European Initiative, Đurić recalled that this platform was established at the end of the Cold War as a bridge of cooperation between different parts of Europe, underscoring that, in today’s altered global circumstances, its relevance is even greater.
He conveyed that Serbia’s participation in the anniversary event was grounded in the message that it actively contributes to addressing regional and European issues.
As he noted, Serbia plays a key role in the region, both due to its economic strength and its geographical position, as well as its interest in ensuring the free movement of goods, people, capital, and services.
He pointed to Serbia’s strategic interest in the region becoming part of the European Union’s single economic area as soon as possible, which would further accelerate development and stability.
Đurić emphasized that Serbia remains committed to accelerating the European integration of the region, recalling that this process has recently been initiated at the highest level, and that the country, with its economic potential and population, can make a significant contribution to Europe’s overall development.
Speaking about bilateral contacts, he noted that during the gathering he received numerous positive assessments regarding Serbia and expressed particular gratitude to his Italian counterparts for their understanding of Serbia’s position, including on the issue of the status of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. He also recalled the long-standing presence of Italian soldiers in the protection of the Visoki Dečani Monastery as an important example of cooperation and support.
The head of Serbian diplomacy concluded that Italy is one of Serbia’s most reliable partners within the European Union and a strong supporter of its European path, adding that Serbia will continue its efforts to ensure that its voice is more strongly heard in the international arena and that it is recognized as a country with significant potential and as an important part of the answer to Europe’s future success.
Đurić also highlighted that an exhibition on Serbia’s Roman heritage will be opened today, with the aim of presenting to the international public the fact that 18 Roman emperors were born on its territory, representing an important historical link with Italy.
