Đurić Meets with Sørensen: The Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Is Not a Dialogue on Mutual Recognition

11. May 2026.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Marko Đurić met today in Brussels with the European Union Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Peter Sørensen to discuss the situation in Kosovo and Metohija and key regional issues.

Minister Đurić emphasized that, for Serbia, the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue is not and cannot be a dialogue on mutual recognition, but rather a process aimed at improving relations between Belgrade and Pristina, as well as enhancing the collective political, economic, cultural, and other rights of the Serbian people, along with all other communities living in Kosovo and Metohija.

He expressed concern over the fact that Pristina continues and intensifies, through unilateral actions, the institutional violence that the Serbian community in Kosovo and Metohija faces on a daily basis.

Speaking about the importance of maintaining a regular pace of meetings, Đurić stated that the continuation of the dialogue should focus on the full implementation of agreements already reached.

Đurić stressed that Serbia’s policy is clear and unequivocal: the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities (ASM) remains a priority and the key framework for strengthening the institutional capacities of the Serbian people and protecting their collective rights in Kosovo and Metohija.

He welcomed the agreement reached regarding the implementation of the Law on Foreigners and thanked the High Representative for his active engagement, while recalling that the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities has still not been established due to obstruction by Pristina and its avoidance of fulfilling the obligations envisaged under the 2013 Brussels Agreement.

Minister Đurić thanked EU Special Representative Sørensen for his active engagement and constructive approach, adding that the extension of the mandate of the EULEX until 14 June 2027 is also of immense importance.
