Đurić confers with U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Michael Waltz
Minister Đurić congratulated Ambassador Waltz on his recent appointment, expressing confidence that, under the administration of President Donald Trump, the United States will contribute to a renewed commitment to the founding principles and values of the United Nations.
He described today’s meeting as an excellent opportunity to present Serbia’s positions on key international issues.
Minister Đurić conveyed Serbia’s expectation that the issue of Kosovo and Metohija will continue to be addressed in international organizations in an appropriate and balanced manner, with full understanding for Serbia’s arguments and legitimate concerns.
The interlocutors also discussed the energy situation in the region, with Minister Đurić calling for additional understanding of Serbia’s position, while underlining the strategic importance of close cooperation between friendly and partner countries such as Serbia and the United States, especially given that President Trump enjoys unprecedented support in Europe.
Minister Đurić commended the ongoing high-level dialogue and contacts with U.S. officials, noting that these exchanges are characterized by openness and a constructive approach, even on the most complex topics.
He further emphasized that the upcoming Strategic Dialogue between Serbia and the United States represents a significant new step forward in the quality of bilateral relations, and that today’s meeting provided an opportunity to discuss some of its key elements.
Finally, Minister Đurić underlined that the United States is one of Serbia’s most important bilateral foreign policy partners, with which Serbia seeks to further strengthen cooperation both bilaterally and in the multilateral arena.
