Đurić Confers with President of the UN Security Council
Minister Đurić emphasised that regular consideration of the situation in Kosovo and Metohija by the UN Security Council is essential to ensuring an objective and comprehensive assessment of political and security developments on the ground, as well as maintaining the international community’s attention on the numerous challenges facing the Serbian population in the Province.
The Serbian Foreign Minister highlighted the continued deterioration of the situation of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, stressing in particular that Pristina’s unilateral actions, the closure of Serbian institutions and restrictions on access to essential public services are further exacerbating the climate of insecurity and mistrust.
He drew particular attention to the pressures faced by Serbs in northern Kosovo and Metohija and the need to ensure their personal security, the protection of their property, freedom of movement and the unhindered exercise of their fundamental human rights.
Minister Đurić underscored the need for the full and consistent implementation of all commitments undertaken within the Belgrade–Pristina dialogue, including the establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities, as an important mechanism for safeguarding the collective and individual rights of the Serbian people.
In this context, he emphasised the indispensable role of UNMIK’s continued presence, in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244.
Đurić reaffirmed Serbia’s commitment to preserving peace and stability, expressing the expectation that international actors would give due attention to protecting the rights and security of the Serbian population in Kosovo and Metohija.
