Đurić Confers with Guinea-Bissau’s Minister of Foreign Affairs

Welcoming his interlocutor, Minister Đurić emphasised that it was a particular honour and pleasure that, on the occasion of this important anniversary, Belgrade was once again bringing together Serbia’s traditional friends from various parts of the world.

Đurić noted that there is a mutual interest in imparting fresh momentum and greater substance to relations between Serbia and Guinea-Bissau. He recalled that last year marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, noting that this important milestone provides further impetus for their continued advancement.

The interlocutors agreed that the good political relations between Serbia and Guinea-Bissau should be accompanied by a significant strengthening of economic cooperation, which currently does not reflect the full potential or the quality of relations between the two countries.

In this context, the interlocutors discussed opportunities to establish more concrete economic ties between the two countries.

During the meeting, the two sides also agreed to establish a practice of regular bilateral political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Serbia and Guinea-Bissau, with a view to intensifying political dialogue and ensuring more effective follow-up on agreements reached concerning cooperation in various fields.

The Serbian Foreign Minister briefed his interlocutor on the situation of the Serbian population in Kosovo and Metohija, drawing attention to the continued deterioration of their living conditions. Đurić emphasised that Serbia remains firmly committed to peace and dialogue, as well as to the consistent observance of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

Particular attention during the talks was devoted to cooperation in the field of education. The interlocutors discussed the possibility of students from Guinea-Bissau pursuing their studies in Serbia under the “World in Serbia” programme, with Đurić emphasising Serbia’s commitment to further strengthening its ties with its traditional friends on the African continent through educational opportunities for young people.
