The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, met in Washington with Congressman Michael Turner to discuss bilateral relations between Serbia and the United States and the further strengthening of political cooperation.

At the meeting—which follows up on discussions initiated during Congressman Turner’s recent visit to Belgrade—both sides reiterated their support for launching the strategic dialogue between the two countries at the earliest opportunity, noting that regular communication is a key prerequisite for stability and predictability in mutual relations.

The talks also focused on the current situation in the region. Minister Đurić briefed the Congressman on the challenges Belgrade is facing, particularly with regard to the security of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija and the attempts to restrict fundamental political rights, including participation in the electoral process.

The interlocutors also reviewed planned activities in the U.S. Congress related to the Western Balkans region.
