Visit of Secretary General Kozarev to the Hellenic Republic
On this occasion, the interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the prominent level of overall relations and cooperation between the two countries, underpinned by friendly ties and the historical closeness of the Serbian and Greek peoples.
Secretary General Kozarev reaffirmed the interest of the Republic of Serbia in further intensifying political dialogue at the high and highest levels, as well as Serbia’s commitment to the continued development of cooperation across all areas of mutual interest.
He expressed his conviction that the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation signed during the visit of Foreign Minister Marko Đurić to Athens in December 2024 will contribute significantly to strengthening ties between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs, including their respective Secretariats. He particularly highlighted the Memorandum’s provisions for the continuation of joint activities in the field of diplomatic training.
Kozarev emphasized that the Republic of Serbia highly values Greece’s principled position on the non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo. He also informed his counterpart about the difficult circumstances faced by the Serbian population in Kosovo and Metohija as a result of repression and unilateral actions by the Kurti administration.
He further addressed the situation in the wider region, with a particular focus on Bosnia and Herzegovina, underlining that Serbia will continue to engage constructively in efforts to preserve peace and stability in the Balkans. At the same time, Serbia will maintain strong support for the Serbian people and institutions of the Republic of Srpska.
It was confirmed during the meeting that Greece will continue to extend its unequivocal support to Serbia on its path toward full membership in the European Union.
Secretary General Kozarev also welcomed the official confirmation of Greece’s participation in the Specialized Expo 2027, to be hosted by Belgrade. He underlined Serbia’s significant economic achievements over the past decade, guided by President Vučić’s modern vision, and noted that Serbia’s GDP is expected to surpass 100 billion euros by 2027.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of trade exchange, which has reached a value of one billion euros, as well as with the steady growth in mutual tourism. It was noted that there is further potential for enhancing these areas, particularly through Greece’s integration into the region’s unified electronic toll collection system and the acceleration of customs and border procedures.
The interlocutors also acknowledged the important role of both diasporas in strengthening the international standing of Serbia and Greece and expressed mutual interest in cooperation and the exchange of experiences in this domain.
