Tamara Vucic at a high-level event in New York hosted by the Permanent Mission of Honduras
The event, dedicated to dialogue between young people, representatives of states, international agencies and distinguished individuals, opened with an address by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Honduras, Eduardo Enrique Reina.
Tamara Vucic, spouse of the President of the Republic of Serbia, participated in the segment of the event titled "The Power of Partnership". In her address, she referred to the importance of including young people in the decision-making process, but also to the importance of creating an atmosphere and environment in which young people would be able to express their ideas and views, as well as dilemmas and problems.
She reminded that the Republic of Serbia recently submitted a candidacy for membership in the United Nations Commission on Population and Development, with the intention of being more involved in the wider, global dialogue on population policy. The role played by young people in the tradition and culture of Serbia is best illustrated by the saying: "The young shall inherit the world", and that the Republic of Serbia continued to care about young people today was reflected in the fact that the subject "Virtues and Values as a Life Compass" was included in the school curricula.
"Young people are, without a doubt, the most important engine of development of any society. Their help is of great importance in achieving the goals of sustainable development, not only because of the size of the young population, but also because of the fact that they often see the world from a different, fresh and significantly more positive perspective", Tamara Vucic concluded.
