Serbian Diplomacy Day marked by laying wreath on the tomb of Ivo Andrić
Numerous officials attended a ceremony of wreath laying in the Ally of Meritorious Citizens on the New Cemetery in Belgrade.
On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, amongst others, State Secretary Goran Aleksić, Acting General Secretary Suzana Bošković-Prodanović, Assistant Minister for Bilateral Cooperation Vladimir Marić and Director of the Directorate for Cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region Arnaud Gouillon attended the ceremony.
Serbian Diplomacy Day is marked in memory of 29th May 1839, when the first Office of Foreign Affairs was established in the Principality of Serbia, which is considered the beginning of professional diplomacy in Serbia.
Ivo Andrić was in diplomatic service for 21 years, since 1920 to 1941, serving in eight countries.
