Selaković: You can't agree on anything with those people
"I remember the negotiations eight years ago, so I can confirm what the president said, that I have never attended a meeting like this, which means that you had a wall by Pristina representatives who did not want any agreement", Selaković told Tanjug.
As he said, Pristina's position was to undermine everything, and not take into account anything that was negotiated and agreed upon until the arrival of Albin Kurti and his party in power.
For them, he adds, it is something that does not exist, and no topic that was initiated, even by Miroslav Lajčák or Josep Borrell, was acceptable to them.
"EU representatives had a serious, fair and correct relationship, they intervened several times when irrational things were said. Vučić clearly told Kurti that Serbia would never recognize the so-called Kosovo and there was literally a detonation after that", Selaković said.
He added that Belgrade essentially accepted everything that was proposed, but that Pristina was not interested in the essence.
"Borrell tried to ask them several times – which agreement is unacceptable for you, what should be renegotiated? That was never said, because they won’t say – this is unacceptable for us", Selaković said.
Selaković adds that regarding the Community of Serb Municipalities, they say that it is not a community for Serbs but against Kosovo.
They also quoted the decision of the Constitutional Court of the so-called Kosovo, and referred to the decision of the International Court of Justice and the like.
"Put simply, you can't agree on anything with those people. Vučić asked them not to do anything that could cause instability, and they pretended not to hear that. When Borrell and Lajčák repeated that, they started with the crazy story that Serbs want to serve liturgies in Milosevic's churches...", said Selaković.
In that sense, he pointed out that the meeting was extremely difficult, hard and tense, and that Vučić's attitude, and how he defended our interests, required a statesman’s wisdom and "thick nerves", as he said.
He added that the date of the meeting of the teams at the technical level has been agreed, and that it would be no later than 25 July, but that no one can say what it will look like, Selaković said.
"We are not the ones who determine who will sit on the other side of the table. Our position is very clear, every hour of conversation is important for the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, for Serbia", Selaković said.
He reiterated that Pristina came to the talks in order to stop any kind of future talks, which must not be allowed to happen, as it was clearly said.
"Belgrade will not be the one to obstruct the dialogue", Selaković said, adding that both Borrell and Lajčák had said several times that what had been agreed upon must be fulfilled, but that it was as if they were "talking in vain".
He stated that there are serious concerns, because on the other side, there are people who are able to undermine the entire process which was painstakingly conducted for 10 years.
Asked whether we expect the EU and the United States to somehow react in order to unlock this situation, Selaković said that he hoped that they would, but that we must not have any misconceptions about who gave birth to the so-called Kosovo's independence and who fought to have these talks today in which some problems are to be solved.
