Selaković: Serbia is strong because of the wise and responsible policy of President Vučić

26. Apr 2022.
Today, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selaković said that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has been creating peace and stability in the region while Priština was headed by Albin Kurti, who refused to implement the Brussels Agreement and openly threatened to create a so-called “Greater Albania”.

During his appearance on Pink TV, Minister Selaković said that President Vučić has presented serious regional initiatives, such as “Open Balkans”, that he has launched a number of regional infrastructure projects, while, on the other hand, Kurti called for the creation of “Greater Albania” and produced turmoil and instability throughout the region.

Minister Selaković stated that “the little Balkan Hitler”, namely Kurti, was doing everything to obstruct freedom of movement, stifle the freedom and rights of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija, which, as he said, could be observed through 70 hidden investigations from which indictments against the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija were to emerge.

“The unity of the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija and the unity with their President and their Government is what they (Priština) directly disfavour. They have not broken the Serbian spirit in Kosovo and Metohija because Serbia is strong, and it is strong because of the wise and responsible policy of President Vučić,” said Selaković.

Minister Selaković pointed out that Kurti was not interested in dialogue, nor in implementing what has been achieved in that dialogue so far.

“At the UN Security Council meeting I said that malignant nationalism prevails in Priština, the goal of which is to politically decapitate the Serbs, since they cannot be defeated at the elections,” the Minister said.

Referring to the recent UN Security Council session, held to discuss the biannual report of UNMIK, Minister Selaković said that the atmosphere at the session was very interesting and different than before.

The Minister said that the permanent and non-permanent members of this body who support Serbia's positions were very resolute and principled in their speeches. He referred to the addresses of the representatives of Russia, China and India, especially to the speech of the Permanent Representative of Brazil, who spoke about the importance of respecting Resolution 1244, as well as of the Permanent Representative of Ghana, who spoke very clearly in favour of Serbia's policy.

“Recognisers of independence of so-called Kosovo were somewhat weaker and less convincing, everyone condemned the ban on the referendum and the elections held on 3 April and called for the implementation of the obligations assumed by the Brussels Agreement,” Selaković said.

Minister Selaković underlined the fact that the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija lived in fear and uncertainty, pointing out that last year alone there were 45 percent more cases of ethnically motivated violence than in the previous year. According to Minister Selaković, the people living in Kosovo and Metohija, especially more than 200,000 internally displaced Serbs and non-Albanians who have not been able to return to their homes for 23 years testify about such fear and uncertainty.

Selaković said that he has drawn special attention to the problem of internally displaced persons to all members of the UN Security Council.

He also referred to the hypocrisy of the representatives of Priština, who stated at the session that they had accepted refugees from Afghanistan.

“They attempted to teach a lesson to the world public, and in this case one has to react and raise his voice,” Selaković pointed out.

Speaking about the presidential elections in France and the victory of Emmanuel Macron, Minister Selaković said that we witnessed to how the personal relationship of the two presidents, Vučić and Macron, contributed to the relations between the two countries.

“Look at these relations five years ago, at what level they were in the field of politics, economy, investments,” the Minister pointed out, citing numerous projects being implemented in partnership with French companies, such as Nikola Tesla Airport, Belgrade metro, landfill in Vinča…

Minister Selaković also referred to the allegations in some media that President Vučić had not congratulated Robert Golob on winning the parliamentary elections in Slovenia, emphasising that that could very easily be checked on the President's website and his social networks.

“We are committed to the development of friendly relations, convinced that the practice of holding sessions of the two governments will continue, as well as our good economic cooperation, and that Slovenia's support for Serbia's European path will continue," Selaković said.

Asked to characterise the gaffe of the Italian ambassador in Jasenovac, who expressed solidarity with the Croatian people, Selaković said that we have long understood that no one would remember the suffering of the Serbs if we fail to remember them, emphasising that much has been done in this field through insisting on cultivating a culture of remembrance.
