Selaković: Scenes from Germany and the Benelux countries wake up memories in us from 2014

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Nikola Selaković, expressed his condolences today to Germany and the Benelux countries, which have been affected by severe floods in recent days, stating that the way those societies reacted in crisis is an example of how a collective should behave in challenging moments.

"Those images bring the memories of our country from 2014 to life. Look at how those countries are coping with that. In the Benelux countries alone, more than 100,000 people were evacuated, and the number of victims is tens of times higher than the number of victims in Serbia at the time. See how responsible those communities are and how the whole public treats that issue, and now remember what it looked like in our country", Selaković said as a guest on TV Prva.

Minister Selaković reminded of the lies and fabrications about the number of flood victims in Serbia, of the claims that bodies were burned in blast furnaces.

"Over there, it is normal to know how to behave when a part of your country is facing a natural disaster, such situations are not used for the purpose of gaining cheap points or attacking the one who is in charge of saving everything that can be saved", Selaković said.

He reminded that certain circles in Serbia acted in a horrible way both during and after the floods, because they attacked the country with horrible lies.

"Despite everything, we managed to fight the floods, to overcome difficult situations, to overcome the fall in GDP that year, to rebuild the parts of Serbia affected by the floods and to be among the first in Europe in terms of growth and prospects", said the head of Serbian diplomacy, adding that this is exactly why our country is in a position to help others in need today.

Referring to the epidemiological situation in the world, Selaković expressed the expectation that Serbia will be able to help some friendly countries on the African continent, which are facing very difficult challenges today.

According to him, Serbia is behaving as a credible and loyal partner that is able to show solidarity in difficult situations.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Prime Minister's Office, sent a proposal to the President of our Republic, to donate vaccines to friendly African countries, because there are countries on that continent that have not received a single dose of vaccine yet. We are working on planning the distribution of those vaccines, and I am convinced that our state leadership will be able to help. We will help as much as we can and to whomever we can", said Selaković.

The Minister also hinted at the possibility of food aid to some African countries that have faced great droughts this year.

"During my visit to Africa, I saw that there are many countries there who have not forgotten their friendship with Serbia, and I am proud that we can help", Selaković said.
