Political Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Serbia and Belgium
During the consultations, both sides expressed satisfaction on the occasion of a significant milestone—namely, the marking of 140 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2026. Readiness was expressed to organize bilateral visits and to further intensify political dialogue at high and highest levels.
Relations and cooperation between the two countries were assessed as stable and well-developed, with potential for further enhancement. Particular emphasis was placed on the strong cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, judiciary, and internal affairs.
A comprehensive and detailed exchange of views was held on all relevant issues concerning the European integration process of the Republic of Serbia and the European Union’s enlargement policy.
Special attention was devoted to the Belgrade–Pristina Dialogue. The Serbian side pointed to numerous instances of human rights violations, as well as the extremely difficult position of the Serbian and other non-Albanian communities in Kosovo and Metohija, the detrimental impact of unilateral actions by Pristina, and the necessity of returning to dialogue as the sole mechanism for achieving sustainable solutions.
Both sides also noted their close cooperation within international organizations, particularly regarding candidacies. The importance of multilateralism was emphasized, especially in light of the current complex geopolitical situation globally.
The delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia also included Acting Assistant Minister for the European Union Miloš Todorović, Deputy Assistant Minister for Multilateral Cooperation Ksenija Milenković, Head of the Europe Department Milena Mitić, and Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Belgium Aleksandar Tasić. The Belgian delegation additionally included European Correspondent Valérie Boels, Deputy Director for Eastern and Southeastern Europe and Central Asia Frédéric de Coninck, and Deputy Director for Economic Affairs Maxime Ramon.
