Kozarev Visits the Vatican and Rome

26. May 2026.
The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Dušan Kozarev is on a working visit to the Holy See and Italy, where he met today with Undersecretary at the Secretariat of State of the Holy See Monsignor Mihai Blaj and delivered a lecture at the Italian Society for International Organization.

Kozarev and Blaj noted the close relations and high level of mutual understanding between Serbia and the Holy See, founded on solidarity, shared Christian values and traditions, as well as on the principled support the Vatican provides to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia with regard to Kosovo and Metohija.

The interlocutors reaffirmed their commitment to preserving the Serbian Orthodox Christian heritage, which is particularly endangered in Serbia’s southern province, while also expressing mutual support for dialogue as the path toward achieving sustainable peace and stability amid the turbulent geopolitical circumstances currently facing the international community.

During the cordial hour-and-a-half-long discussion, the interlocutors reviewed a number of current regional and broader global issues. Topics included the significance of the Vatican’s participation in Expo 2027, as well as the application of modern technologies such as artificial intelligence in the everyday life and work of both religious and secular communities.

As part of the program, Kozarev also visited the prestigious diplomatic institute, the Italian Society for International Organization, where he discussed future cooperation with the institution’s president, Ambassador Riccardo Sessa, particularly with the Diplomatic Academy of the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He subsequently held an extensive discussion with students and researchers on Serbia’s foreign policy, inspired by the long-term state-building vision of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, while also acquainting them with the activities of Foreign Minister Marko Đurić and the Government of the Republic of Serbia in protecting national interests in international relations and strengthening ties with partners worldwide.

In the evening, Secretary General Kozarev, Serbian Ambassador to Rome Mirjana Jeremić, and Consul General in Milan Nataša Savićević hosted representatives of Italian institutions, the diplomatic corps, and public life at the Embassy of Serbia in Italy during a reception dedicated to the culinary traditions of Serbia entitled “Taste of Serbia.”
