Kozarev and Colgan discuss strengthening cooperation between Serbia and Ireland

28. Oct 2025.
The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dušan Kozarev, met with the Ambassador of Ireland to the Republic of Serbia, Kevin Colgan.

Kozarev extended a warm welcome to the Ambassador and wished him a successful term in Serbia. He expressed satisfaction with the opening of the Embassy of Ireland in Belgrade and offered full technical and logistical support necessary for its functioning.

He expressed confidence that this diplomatic mission would contribute to enhancing the overall cooperation between Serbia and Ireland and to strengthening the ties between the two friendly peoples.

The interlocutors agreed that a more intensive political dialogue would serve as a good impetus for deepening bilateral relations and discussed plans for concrete steps in that direction.

Speaking about Serbia’s European Union membership as a strategic commitment and a key priority of its foreign policy, Kozarev thanked the Ambassador for Ireland’s support and informed him about the fulfilled conditions and challenges Serbia faces in the accession negotiations.

Bearing in mind that Ireland will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2026, the two sides also discussed cooperation with the Western Balkan countries and the EU enlargement process—topics which, as the Ambassador confirmed, will be high on Ireland’s presidency agenda.

Kozarev and Colgan also exchanged views on the most current regional and international issues.
