The State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Damjan Jović, who is participating in the international Doha Forum in Qatar, took part in a panel dedicated to relations between the United States and the People’s Republic of China in the context of risks and new opportunities arising from the challenges of the current global order.

Speaking about the positions of the United States and China, Jović underlined that both countries are of significant importance to Serbia, and that each has something unique to offer the rest of the world, particularly when they cooperate effectively in certain areas.

He emphasized that we all live in one world, which belongs equally to large and small states alike.

Jović further noted that Serbia holds an almost unique position in Europe—as an EU candidate country that simultaneously enjoys a strategic partnership with China, maintains traditionally good relations with Russia as well as with Ukraine, was among the founders of the Non-Aligned Movement, and is currently working toward a strategic dialogue with the United States.

Reflecting on Serbia’s position, the State Secretary stressed that Serbia strives to cooperate with all partners worldwide and to foster friendly relations, which reflects its sovereign and independent foreign policy—while acknowledging that such an approach sometimes carries a price.

The panel also featured Saeed Khatibzadeh, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran; Hina Khar, Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of the National Assembly of Pakistan; and Mohammed Baharoon, Director of the Center for Public Policy Research of the United Arab Emirates.
