Jovanović confers with Director of the Public Information Division of the UN Department of Global Communications

The State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Nevena Jovanović, met today with the Director of the Public Information Division at the United Nations Department of Global Communications, Maher Nasser, who is visiting Belgrade on the occasion of the Second Meeting of International Participants of the Specialized Exhibition Expo 2027, which will be held in Belgrade from 15 May to 15 August 2027.

The interlocutors highlighted the importance of the United Nations as a key mechanism for preserving peace and stability in the world, as well as for fostering global socio-economic progress. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of multilateralism and the role of the United Nations in the context of current geopolitical shifts that call into question the international legal order and the principles on which the Organization is founded.

State Secretary Jovanović emphasized that the Republic of Serbia attaches particular importance to the role of the United Nations in safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity, noting that Serbia continues its successful cooperation with the UN system in the country. She also recalled that a new five-year Strategic Cooperation Framework between the Republic of Serbia and the United Nations for Sustainable Development (2026–2030) was signed in February this year, underlining that, according to official UN data, Serbia ranks above the global average in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The interlocutors jointly assessed that Expo 2027 will represent an exceptional opportunity to promote the Republic of Serbia and its development and innovation capacities. Director of the Public Information Division of the UN Department of Global Communications, Maher Nasser, used the opportunity to commend the organization of the preparatory meeting in Belgrade, expressing confidence that the upcoming exhibition will be successfully implemented and satisfaction that the United Nations, as an international organization, will participate in the event.
