Serbian products on the shelves of a Romanian retail chain

Serbian confectionery products, spices, wines, dry-cured meat and canned products have hit the shelves of the Romanian retail chain "Remarkt".

This is a result of nearly year-long discussions on establishing cooperation between Serbian producers and the Romanian retail chain, whose hypermarkets are mostly located in western Romania.

Serbian Ambassador to Romania Stefan Tomasevic told Tanjug that individual attempts of establishing cooperation aimed at marketing Serbian products in Romania had produced only short-term results in the past, while sustainable representation of Serbian products had been lacking.

“After several months of work on the project, which implied connecting the producers of renowned Serbian brands with the Romanian retail chain in order to market the goods, as well as ensuring the involvement of distributors in breaking into a market that is certainly demanding, we now have a whole range of quality, recognised Serbian brands as a result”, Tomasevic said

He pointed out that so far there were almost no Serbian products in Romania.

Customers in Romania now have the opportunity to purchase Serbian sweets, spices, wines, dry-cured meat and canned products, as well as other fast-moving consumer goods.

Remarkt primarily operates in the west of Romania, has its hypermarkets in Oradea, Arad, as well as smaller markets in Timisoara, the area to which the Serbian population gravitates.

The Ambassador said that he was grateful to the company for enabling the cooperation, but he also pointed out the support and encouragement offered by the state of Serbia to export-oriented production.

"The vision of economic diplomacy of Serbia is important, which was traced by President Aleksandar Vucic and which is monitored and implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headed by Nikola Selakovic, as well as other institutions of Serbia. This is the basis and the first and key precondition for us to be able to carry out such projects", Tomasevic said.

He added that the Serbian producers will in the future as well be able to rely on the support of the Serbian Embassy in Bucharest and the Consulate General in Timisoara.

Such projects and establishing ties between businessmen contribute to the development of bilateral relations between Serbia and Romania, not only in the economy, by increasing the trade in goods, but in an essential sense.

Tomasevic also stated that the offer of Serbian products was expected to be expanded with new ones that would appear on the shelves by Easter.

"We will have a promotion in Arad at the end of April, before Easter, and we expect that cooperation with some other Serbian producers will start after that", Tomasevic said.
