Bucharest: Armistice Day Commemoration
Wreaths were also laid by the Deputy Mayor of Medgidia, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Bucharest Halka Kaiserová, representatives of the Ministry of National Defence and the Garrison of the Municipality of Medgidia, the National Association of War Veterans “Queen Maria”, the local police, gendarmerie and firefighters, as well as citizens of Medgidia.
Ambassador Tomašević stated the Memorial Ossuary in Medgidia is a resting place for about 8,000 of our ancestors who died in 1916, together with their Romanian brothers, fighting as volunteers in Dobruja front.
He reminded that the memorial ossuary was ceremonially opened in 1926 by two monarchs and friends, Serbian King Aleksandar Karađorđević, husband of the Romanian Princess Maria, and Romanian King Ferdinand, the princess's father, which symbolically testifies to the victory of friendship between the Serbian and Romanian people.
In his speech, the Ambassador paid tribute to the Czech soldiers who died fighting on the Dobruja front, Dr. Elsie Inglis, who was awarded the Order of the White Eagle and the Order of Saint Sava, and the Scottish Women's Hospital, which made an immeasurable contribution by treating soldiers in Dobrudja.
The Ambassador also thanked our Romanian friends for preserving the memory of all those who gave their lives in the battles of the First World War and whose remains lie in Romania.
