Political relations

Bilateral relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka are traditionally good and friendly. They are characterised by mutual understanding and mutual interest in improving bilateral cooperation in numerous areas.
President of the Republic of Serbia H.E. Mr. Aleksandar Vučić met DSR PR Sri Lanka H.E. Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, on November 1, 2021 in Glazgow, on the side-lines of Climate Summit.
The then First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ivica Dačić, visited Sri Lanka on 7–8 May 2018, on which occasion he had meetings with the then Sri Lankan officials: Parliament Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tilak Marapana. This was the first visit to Sri Lanka at this level after a two-decade gap.

 

Economic relations

In 2022, the total exchange of goods between Republic of Serbia and Sri Lanka amounted to 10.56 million dollars, of which the value of exports from Republic of Serbia was 421,000 dollars, and imports were 10.14 million dollars.

 

Bilateral agreements

  • Trade Agreement, signed on 30 July 1953. (The Official Gazette No. 1/1955, Appendix No. 20/55 Collection of Agreements),
  • Agreement between the SFRY and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on Avoidance of Double Taxation with respect to Taxes on Income and on Capital, signed on 7 May 1985 (The Official Gazette of the SFRY - International Treaties No. 4/86),
  • Agreement on Air Traffic between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, signed on 8 May 2018 (The Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia - International Treaties No. 2/2019).
