Political relations
Relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Maldives have significant potential for further development in various areas, reflecting the mutual interest of both countries.
On the sidelines of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, held in Qatar in March 2023, President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić met for the first time with President of the Republic of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The then Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Abdulla Shahid, paid official visits to Belgrade in November 2022 and May 2023.
The Maldives was represented at the Commemorative Meeting marking the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Non-Aligned Movement, held in Belgrade, by its Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
Economic relations
According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, the total trade exchange with Maldives in 2025 amounted to €5.8 million, of which €5.5 million referred to exports from the Republic of Serbia and €0.3 million to imports.
Bilateral agreements
• Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives;
• Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the Republic of Maldives on the Abolition of Visas for Holders of Diplomatic and Official Passports;
• Air Services Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the Republic of Maldives;
• Memorandum of Understanding in the Field of Sports between the Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment of the Republic of Maldives;
• Agreement between the Government of Maldives and the Government of the Republic of Serbia on Trade, Investment and Economic Cooperation;
• Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives on Cooperation in the Field of Diplomatic Education.
