Intensified political contacts took place between 1974 and 1979. The relations between the two countries were characterized by close positions and cooperation based on the principles of non-alignment, as well as political, diplomatic and material support of the former Yugoslavia to the struggle of Laos for national liberation. Laos supported our country during the crisis in the former SFRY in the 1990s and expressed strong opposition to NATO aggression against the FRY in 1999.
The then Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, I. Mrkić visited Laos on 22 – 25 February 2013, which was the first visit from Serbia at this level in the last decade.
Delegation of the National Assembly of Laos, led by President P. Yathotou, visited the Republic of Serbia in October 2013.
Economic cooperation with Lao is underdeveloped, and trade is reduced to a modest level. In 2020, trade with Laos amounted to 19 thousand euros of exports, while goods worth 942 thousand euros were imported.
