Political relations

Political relations are traditionally very good and friendly. They are characterized by regular contacts of officials, as well as mutual support in international organizations. Visits by officials of the two countries are regularly exchanged. Former President of the Republic of Serbia T. Nikolić paid an official visit to Algeria in May 2016. The visit of the Algerian MFA was in March 2018. Return visit of the then President of the RS National Assembly M. Gojković was in Algeria in May 2015.

Economic relations

Economic relations between the two countries mainly take place through trade, where the Republic of Serbia has a marked surplus.

In 2021 Serbian exports were 164,419,000 euros and imports were 1,608,000 euros.

Opportunities for strengthening cooperation are in the following areas: agriculture, industry, especially pharmaceuticals and food, construction, mining and energy (petrochemistry), health, tourism and information and communication technologies.

Bilateral agreements

- Agreement on Legal Assistance in Civil and Criminal Matters between the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.

Effective date: 29 December 1983.

- Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the Democratic People's Republic of Algeria on the abolition of visas for holders of diplomatic and official passports.

Effective date: 26 May 2012.

- Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria on mutual encouragement and protection of investments.

Effective date: 25 November 2013.
