Political relations

Political relations and dialogue between the Republic of Serbia and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan have the potential for improvement in various areas.
The delegation of Afghanistan at the 141st session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Belgrade, 13 – 17 October 2019, was led by R. Rahmani, Speaker of the House of the People, the lower house of the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
The last meeting on the side-lines of multilateral gatherings at the level of foreign ministers was between the then Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia V. Jeremić and the then Afghan Minister of Foreign Affairs Z. Rasul, in May 2012, during a ministerial meeting of the Coordination Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement in Egypt.

 

Economic relations

Trade between the Republic of Serbia and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is small in scale. In 2022 the total trade amounted 529,000 euros.

 

Bilateral agreements

  • Friendship Agreement, signed on 30 December 1954 (The Official Gazette No. 8/1955, Appendix No. 20/1956 − Collection of Agreements of the FPRY);
  • Payments Agreement, signed on 30 December 1959 (The Official Gazette No. 12/1960, Appendix No. 12/1960 − Collection of Agreements of the FPRY);
  • Agreement on Economic Cooperation, signed on 13 July 1968 (The Official Gazette No. 36/70 − section International Treaties and Other Agreements);
  • Trade Agreement, signed on 11 June 1975 (International Treaties No. 2/80).
