Sofia: World War I Armistice Day commemoration at the Serbian Military Cemetery
The ceremony marking Armistice Day and the laying of wreaths was attended by the highest representatives of the Bulgarian Army, military envoys accredited in Bulgaria, representatives of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a large number of members of the diplomatic corps and Serbian citizens living and working in Bulgaria.
Ambassador Jović thanked everyone for coming on this very important day for Serbia and the Serbian people to pay tribute to „all Serbian victims and Serbian soldiers who were killed and who died in the fight for freedom, justice and for those values on which modern Europe rests today“.
The Ambassador reminded the present guests that the Republic of Serbia had gone through terrible war destruction and suffering in that period, and that approximately 1,300,000 people lost their lives during the war, 1/3 of the total population or about 62% of the male population.
„Our victims, as well as all the victims of other nations which we have had through difficult and complicated human history, are reason enough for the main message today, that peace is priceless,“ said the Ambassador.
