Political relations

Overall relations with this youngest African state (gained independence in 2011) need to be developed and strengthened in all areas. There were no visits by officials to date, and meetings are most frequently held at international and regional events. A positive contribution to the relations between the two states is provided by the principal position of South Sudan regarding the non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo.

The former President of the Republic of Serbia T. Nikolić awarded the President of South Sudan S. K. Mayardit the Order of the Republic of Serbia on a Ribbon in March 2016 for merit in developing friendly relations.

Economic relations

There was no foreign trade exchange between Serbia and South Sudan to date, and there is mutual interest in developing various forms of economic cooperation.
