Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the attack on the diplomatic and consular mission of Iran in Damascus

The Republic of Serbia condemns the attack on the diplomatic and consular mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus, which took place on 1 April 2024, and regrets the loss of life.
The principle of inviolability of the premises and staff of diplomatic and consular missions needs to be respected at all times, without exception and in all circumstances, pursuant to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the principles of international law.
We are deeply concerned about the possibility of further escalation of the conflict in the region, which is why we call on all involved parties to exercise restraint, primarily in order to avoid further civilian casualties.
