Romania's Parliamentary Friendship Group with Serbia visits the Embassy

08. Jun 2021.
The Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Bucharest hosted a reception for members of parliament and senators of the Romanian Parliament, members of the newly formed Friendship Group with the Republic of Serbia.

Ambassador Tomašević pointed out that today's presence of Romanian MPs and senators in the Embassy represents a great honor for the collective.

He congratulated on the formation of the Friendship Group with Serbia in the Parliament of Romania and emphasized that its existence and functioning is of great importance for our bilateral relations.

He pointed out that the traditional friendship between the two countries and the two peoples is an example of good neighborliness in the region.

He especially pointed out that Serbia and Romania have a common history of freedom, rich bilateral relations in all segments, of which our parliamentary cooperation is especially important.

He emphasized that he was sure that initiatives such as a joint exhibition in the Romanian Parliament, as well as other forms of connecting the two groups of MPs, who rightly consider each other friends, would contribute to deepening parliamentary cooperation and contribute to the overall development of bilateral relations.

He also pointed out that two Serbian queens were of Romanian origin, that prominent scientists, artists and businessmen created in Serbia and Romania, neighboring and friendly countries, which made a great contribution to create even better environments for the life of society as a whole, regardless of its origin.

He added that our two peoples traditionally live as good neighbors, and that our peoples, as recognized minorities, enjoy all guaranteed rights and contribute in an essential way to the quality of the environments they belong to in Serbia and Romania, and that they should continue to be a bridge connecting our two countries and two nations, while our role is to help them in that.

He emphasized the importance of Romania's principled support to Serbia in terms of territorial integrity and sovereignty, thus essentially defending the institutes of international law.

He also pointed out that the support that Serbia has from brotherly Romania on its European path is of great importance, aware that we always have friends with us on whom we can rely. This is especially important at a time when even the EU itself is tired of enlargement and when it is necessary to send a strong message that Serbia is desirable, just like other countries in the Western Balkans, and even more, having in mind the excellent results and reforms it achieves, which primarily refer to the accelerated development of the economy, construction of infrastructure, successful immunization of the population and assistance to countries in the region, as well as key reforms in the field of rule of law.

In the end, Ambassador Tomašević emphasized his wish that the parliamentary cooperation and relations between the two countries reach a historical peak, and that we leave them as such to future generations, in order for them to further improve them.

He ended his speech with a sentence that, as he emphasized, has accompanied him since his arrival in beautiful and friendly Romania: "Our friendship is older than all of us!" "Long live Serbia, long live Romania!".

The president of the Friendship Group between Romania and Serbia, Alfred Simonis, thanked for the invitation and the reception that was organized in their honor. He emphasized that the deputies who are members of the friendship group have themselves expressed a desire to be in the friendship group with Serbia, and that most of them are from border areas. He expressed confidence that future cooperation between the Romanian and Serbian parliaments would be successful, as well as that a forum for exchanging views on bilateral issues of importance for the two countries will be held. He emphasized the support that this friendship group will continue to provide on the path to Serbia's EU integration.

He conveyed his belief that the cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia will continue in the spirit of openness and friendship expressed during the organization of this reception.
